Squero Padovano

In Venice squero is the boatyard for the building, maintenance and shelter for traditional boats such as the sandolo, mascareta, puparin, and, of course, the most popular gondola. Even in Padua, city of waters, as in Venice, there were once squeri overlooking the waterways.
Within the walls of the ancient city, in a hidden place to rediscover, we have improvised our squero. Here we're trying to share a story that has been lost over fifty years ago.

PUPPARIN

This is my favorite boat for its slim and elegant profile. As the gondola, the Pupparin is asymmetric in shape and the stern oarsman (pope) is driving standing on a platform called soralai. Amissi del Piovego bought this old pupparin in 2009. Its length is 9.87 m and its width 1.30 m.

In may-June 2011 I did some repairs on the bottom so I took the opportunity to renew the colors and built the floor boards (paioli) too.
For the various actions it took about 100 hours of work.
Here some pictures just before and after the launch July 18, 2011:

An additional repair was necessary in the spring of 2014. Due to the the infiltration of water from the deck of the bow, the rod and part of the bow planking has rotted and was needed to replace the wood.
